New Branch Locations
Today, the New Orleans Public Library Foundation is
working steadily toward growing and expanding our public library system
to provide the New Orleans community with an important
resource featuring excellent facilities and offering quality services,
programs and technologies that support a culture of lifelong learning,
promote a strong democracy, and advance a creative economy for all
throughout the City. Our vision is beginning to take a clear shape and
pick up speed!
Thanks to a fast-track Design-Build process, five
neighborhoods in New Orleans will receive new branch libraries by the
end of 2011. Through these new branches we will be able to thoroughly
engage our community on a neighborhood-by-neighborhood basis.
Each branch in our public library system will be built
with a focus on sustainability. Each branch will have features such as:
- Public transportation access
- Bicycle storage
- Reduce heat island effect
- Sun orientation
- Water-efficient landscaping
- Water-use reduction
- Passive cooling
- Energy efficiency
